A chemical tank imploded and ruptured at a Nippon Dynawave Packaging facility in Longview, Washington, killing one person, injuring nine others, and leaving nine unaccounted for, authorities said. Drone footage showed a collapsed chemical tank and multiple damaged vehicles at the site. Officials said the tank contained “white liquor,” a paper-production chemical solution made of sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide, and ruptured around 7:15 a.m. local time. While initially believed to hold 80,000 gallons, the tank was later found to contain nearly 900,000 gallons, with about 90,000 gallons still remaining inside the unstable structure. Recovery operations are expected to resume Wednesday as emergency crews continue assessing the scene.
