Thousands of Muslim pilgrims performed the tawaf, circling the Kaaba at Mecca’s Grand Mosque on May 24, as they prepare for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam and a once-in-a-lifetime religious duty for every physically and financially able Muslim. It draws millions to Saudi Arabia to follow the rites taught by Prophet Muhammad 14 centuries ago. Eid al-Adha, which marks the climax of Hajj, falls next week.
