Melat Kiros defeated 15-term incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette, marking another win for the party’s ascendant democratic socialist movement. Kiros cast DeGette as part of a failed establishment and also faced scrutiny on the campaign trail after she refused to describe the firebombing of a group of protesters in Boulder calling for the release of Israeli hostages last year as antisemitic.
