Is there anyone that actually believes we are making mistakes in aiding the Taliban? Seriously? The Biden Admin and Democrats are well known for their scams to defraud the United States. This is but one of them.
Less than a year after Judicial Watch exposed the Taliban’s creation of sham nonprofits to pilfer millions in U.S. aid, a bombshell investigation reveals a more insidious scheme. The terrorist group has received hundreds of millions in development assistance from the U.S., thanks to the State Department’s failure to properly vet award recipients. The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) reports that since the 2021 U.S. military pullout, around $239 million has likely ended up in Taliban hands.

This money, meant to foster American foreign policy and national security goals in Afghanistan, was funneled through the State Department’s Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) and International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) divisions. Investigators discovered a shocking lack of compliance with counterterrorism partner vetting requirements. The State Department is supposed to ensure that funds don’t end up with terrorists, but in at least 29 cases, they dropped the ball, failing to conduct the necessary risk assessments and keep adequate records.
The watchdog report highlighted that DRL handed out seven awards totaling about $12 million without proper screening. INL’s performance was even worse, with 19 out of 22 awards totaling $295 million lacking supporting documentation. This gross oversight makes it nearly impossible to verify compliance with vetting protocols. The State Department blamed these failures on issues like “employee turnover and the dissolution of the Afghanistan-Pakistan office,” a flimsy excuse that barely scratches the surface of this administrative catastrophe.

In the wake of the Taliban’s August 2021 takeover, SIGAR insists that U.S. activities in Afghanistan must strictly follow laws and regulations to prevent transactions with terrorists. Yet, the Taliban has managed to establish fake NGOs, siphoning off vast amounts from the $3 billion in humanitarian aid the U.S. has provided since the Biden administration’s abrupt military exit. On top of this, the Taliban has extorted millions more through taxes, permit fees, and import duties.
This illicit revenue has flowed through various U.S. entities, including the notoriously corrupt USAID and the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM). USAID alone received $63.1 billion this year for foreign aid and diplomatic engagement, making it a ripe target for exploitation. Moreover, the United Nations, which received $1.6 billion in U.S. funding for Afghanistan, has likely funneled substantial sums to the Taliban. A federal audit disclosed that the U.S. does not require the UN to report taxes, fees, or duties on American funds used in Afghanistan, allowing significant funds to slip through the cracks.
