Social media platform Rumble has teamed up with Elon Musk’s X to file a lawsuit against the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), alleging that the global advertising group is violating antitrust laws by boycotting certain companies and platforms.
Rumble’s CEO and founder, Chris Pavlovski, explained on FOX Business Network’s “The Big Money Show” that the World Federation of Advertisers, which established GARM, has been improperly using brand safety standards to effectively boycott specific platforms. Pavlovski claims that this creates a monopoly over ad budgets, allowing GARM to discriminate against platforms like Rumble and X based on content they may not favor. This selective approach, he argues, drives up advertising rates and harms shareholders, advertisers, and the platforms themselves.

The lawsuit highlights that GARM’s actions violate the Sherman Act, a federal antitrust law that prohibits monopolistic practices. Pavlovski asserts that the consortium’s control over advertising standards and spending does not represent a free market, which the Sherman Act is designed to protect.
X CEO Linda Yaccarino also emphasized the detrimental impact of GARM’s monopoly on advertisers and content creators, noting that GARM’s practices lead to higher fees and limited market access. This, in turn, harms the competitive landscape and restricts free speech.
GARM was formed in 2019 by the World Federation of Advertisers and includes advertisers, agencies, media companies, platforms, and industry organizations. Despite its claims of being apolitical and voluntary, GARM has been accused of working with large companies to enforce advertising crackdowns on individuals and organizations like Elon Musk, Joe Rogan, Spotify, political candidates, and news outlets including Fox News, The Daily Wire, and Breitbart News.
