A "severe" solar storm made the northern lights visible across parts of the globe and brought a stunning display of hues across the eastern United States Thursday evening.
A powerful burst of magnetized plasma from the sun’s corona erupted on Tuesday night, prompting NOAA to issue the rare geomagnetic storm watch.
The northern lights may be visible over much of the northern half of the U.S. on Friday night as well.
