A California man, Freddie Trone, was convicted on Wednesday for his role in the murder of Philadelphia-native rapper PnB Rock. Trone, 42, was found guilty by a Los Angeles County jury of one count of murder, two counts of robbery, and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery. Although Trone did not personally fire the gun that killed the 30-year-old rapper, whose real name was Rakim Hasheem Allen, prosecutors successfully argued that he instigated his 17-year-old son to carry out the robbery and murder.
PnB Rock was tragically shot multiple times and robbed of approximately $500,000 worth of jewelry while dining with his fiancée at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in Los Angeles in September 2022. Surveillance footage played a crucial role in the trial, showing Trone in the restaurant’s parking lot half an hour before the crime and capturing a fist-bump between Trone and Tremont Jones, who allegedly informed Trone of Allen’s location.

Jones, 46, was also found guilty of two counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy. Both Trone and Jones are set to be sentenced on August 27. Jones’ lawyer has indicated plans to appeal the conviction.
The case had an additional layer of complexity as Trone’s son, initially charged in the murder, was ruled incompetent to stand trial in July. This ruling left Trone and Jones to face the full brunt of the charges.
PnB Rock’s mother, Deannea Allen, expressed relief and gratitude following the verdict. “I wanted to jump up and scream, ‘Hallelujah,’” she told Rolling Stone. “I’m so happy it was quick. We got justice for Rakim. I feel better knowing they’ll be in jail for a long time.”

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón also commented on the outcome, extending sympathies to Allen’s family and praising the efforts of the Community Violence Reduction Division. “Today, justice has been served for Mr. Allen and his family who have endured unimaginable pain losing a loved one to such senseless violence,” Gascón stated. “We extend our deepest sympathies to them and the entire community. Let this serve as a clear message to anyone who threatens the safety and well-being of our community: our office will relentlessly pursue charges and work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.”
