Iranian state television was briefly interrupted on Jan. 18 by a series of graphics and edited video clips backing anti-government protests and promoting exiled former crown prince Reza Pahlavi. The disruption included messages claiming support from the United States and Europe and urging Iran’s military and security forces to abandon the Islamic Republic, though it was not immediately clear who carried out the apparent broadcast intrusion.
