Paraguayan swimming star Luana Alonso created quite a buzz when she decided to get an Olympic rings tattoo near her bikini line before the Paris Games. At the young age of 20, Alonso retired from the sport after failing to qualify for a medal, which only added to the intrigue surrounding her decisions.
Following her elimination from the competition, Alonso chose to remain in the Olympic Village, which reportedly led to further complications. The Paraguayan Olympic Committee chief, Larissa Schaerer, mentioned that Alonso’s presence was causing an “inappropriate atmosphere” within Team Paraguay. Schaerer expressed gratitude that Alonso decided to leave the village voluntarily, stating, “We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes’ Village.”

In response to these claims, Alonso took to her Instagram Stories late Monday to clarify that she was not expelled from the Olympic Village or any other location. She emphasized that she was reluctant to comment on the allegations but could not allow false information to spread unchecked.
Multiple reports indicated that Alonso’s decision to explore Paris, including a visit to Disneyland Paris, rather than continue swimming with her teammates, upset the officials. Paraguayan media and The Daily Mail reported that her sightseeing and allegedly “skimpy outfits” created distractions and discomfort among the team officials.
Alonso is an NCAA Division 1 athlete, swimming for Southern Methodist University (SMU), and holds multiple Paraguayan records in the butterfly stroke. Despite her promising career, she finished her heat at the Paris Games with a time of 1:03.09 and subsequently announced her retirement from the sport.
