Nelly, the well-known rapper, has been arrested in the St. Louis area for failing to appear on an old traffic charge, as confirmed by the Maryland Heights Police Department. The 49-year-old artist, whose real name is Cornell Haynes Jr., was taken into custody around 5 a.m. by the State of Missouri Highway Patrol at the Hollywood Casino. In addition to the traffic charge, he was allegedly found in possession of four ecstasy pills and cited for lack of insurance.

Despite the arrest record, Nelly’s lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, insisted that the artist was not charged with drug possession. Rosenblum claimed that any other citizen would have been simply asked to address the lack of insurance and then released. He criticized the officer involved as “overzealous” and suggested the search was conducted without probable cause. Rosenblum added that they would request an inquiry into the officer’s conduct. A representative for Nelly has not yet commented on the situation.
This incident is not Nelly’s first legal issue. He has faced multiple sexual assault allegations in the past. In October 2017, a woman named Monique Greene accused him of sexually assaulting her on his tour bus in Washington. Nelly was arrested but later released as the investigation continued. Greene eventually refused to testify, and no charges were filed. Nelly maintained that the encounter was consensual.
In a separate incident in December 2017, Nelly was accused of sexual assault in England. The woman claimed that he had masturbated in front of her after a concert. However, she also refused to testify, and the case was dropped.

In April 2015, Nelly was arrested in Tennessee on several drug charges, including felony possession. Authorities found methamphetamine, marijuana, Ziploc bags, and several handguns during a search of his tour bus. Nelly’s attorney at the time denied his involvement with the contraband. Nelly eventually pleaded guilty to misdemeanor marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession, and the charges were cleared after he completed a diversion program.
Despite these legal troubles, Nelly remains a significant figure in the music industry. His recent arrest highlights ongoing issues but also reflects a history of legal challenges and accusations. The outcome of his current charges remains to be seen as legal proceedings continue.
