Recovering gambling and cocaine addict Kiki Marriott came close to ending her life before calling a helpline but in recovery she found she was almost always the only black woman in the room.
Research shows people from ethnic minority backgrounds are less likely to gamble than white people, but more likely to suffer harm and hide their addiction, raising urgent questions about stigma, trust in services and who current support is really reaching.
If you’ve been affected by gambling contact Gam Care for help on 0808 8020 133 and gamcare.org.uk
Anyone feeling emotionally distressed or suicidal can call Samaritans for help on 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org in the UK.
