Israel carried out strikes in Lebanon on Sunday, killing civilians in Beirut as well as a senior Hezbollah commander. It was the most significant attack since last year’s ceasefire, which Lebanon says has now been violated. As Noga Tarnopolsky reports from Jerusalem, Washington’s role in the operation remains unclear. In a separate development, an internal IDF review has acknowledged failures surrounding the events of 7 October. Israeli law requires a full, independent inquiry, but how far this one will actually go remains an open question.
