Upstate New York was blasted by heavy lake-effect snow Tuesday as an arctic outbreak sent temperatures 15–25 degrees below average across the eastern US. More than 190 million Americans woke up to record-breaking cold, driven by a deep jet-stream dip pulling polar air south from Canada. Communities near the Great Lakes saw another round of intense lake-effect snow as the early-season cold wave continued.
