Each of us who knows Jesus as our Lord and Savior has experienced God’s once-for-all judicial forgiveness. The instant we called on the Name of the Lord, trusting Christ as our Savior, we received complete salvation at that moment.
As believers, we are no longer under God’s condemnation, no longer facing His judgment, and no longer destined for hell. Our Father has declared us pardoned, justified, and forever forgiven.
Jesus, here in Matthew 6, explains that God our Father forgives sins, but attaches to our enjoyment of that blessing a great responsibility. The forgiven must be forgiving, or else.
“Jesus gives the prerequisite for receiving forgiveness in the words, as we also have forgiven our debtors. The principle is simple but sobering: if we have forgiven, we will be forgiven; if we have not forgiven, we will not be forgiven”.
Christ’s words are very sobering. The forgiveness of my sins was so precious that it must spill over into our hearts such gratitude that anyone else’s sins against me can even come close to how great my sin was against God.
I was forgiven so much that all others’ sins in my sight are minuscule compared to my sins in God’s sight.
