A deadly gas tanker explosion in Mexico City on Wednesday occurred after a truck carrying more than 13,000 gallons of fuel tipped over and ignited under a busy highway overpass. The massive blast killed three people and injured 70 others, including a baby and a 2-year-old child. The eruption set nearly 30 vehicles ablaze as flames and smoke billowed across the capital. Mayor Clara Brugada called the tragedy an “emergency” as prosecutors investigate what caused the tanker to flip and explode.
