The European Union and the United States issued a joint announcement that a "serious" trade deal is in the works. EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic described the bare-bones framework as a start to a "serious strategic deal."
"Let me say this clearly: the alternative, a trade war with sky-high tariffs and political escalation, helps no one," he said.
