In 2014, thousands of Palestinians in Syria’s Yarmouk refugee camp were starved under siege by the Assad regime, which cut them off from food, medicine and water in a blockade that lasted years.
Today, Palestine’s Gaza is facing a similar fate as Israel enforces a total blockade, halting all entry of food, medicine and humanitarian aid from entering the besieged enclave.
As international warnings of a man-made famine grow louder, the parallels between Yarmouk and Gaza are impossible to ignore. And amid Israel’s ongoing assault on the Palestinian territory, starvation is not simply a byproduct of war, but rather part of Tel Aviv’s genocidal strategy.
