Eli’s life, as an Old Testament priest recorded in the Bible, has a simple but sobering lesson: The best way to fail as a dad is to neglect your calling as a dad.
Don’t choose to just do nothing.
Don’t go through these most crucial years of having your children at home, and hope everything turns out.
To fail as a dad, just stay detached from your marriage and family: That habit always brings disaster long-term, and confusion short-term.
Through these verses, we can see how Eli worked so hard for over 40 years at his job and was distinguished in his field. But, in the process, Eli ignored his family so long that he ended up with the sad results of his disobedient choices. As we study our passage today, we will note how God points out two areas of failure in Eli’s life.
