The British government has taken emergency measures to save British Steel’s Scunthorpe plant, the country’s last major producer of virgin steel, after its Chinese owners threatened to close its blast furnaces.
The move has sparked a diplomatic row, with China accusing UK politicians of ‘arrogance’, while British Steel’s future remains uncertain amid growing calls for the state to nationalise the company.
