Blood In The Water! Ron DeSantis DECLARES GOP Extinction Event
Ron DeSantis just delivered one of the most brutal Republican postmortems imaginable. After Democrats captured both chambers of Congress and flipped races across states once considered safely red, the Florida governor called the result “close to an extinction-level event” for Republicans. Calling it a wave was apparently far too generous—DeSantis compared it to a political meteor strike.
His most devastating warning concerned Texas. DeSantis described it as the former crown jewel of Republican politics and said the party “lost everything.” Democrats won both the governor’s mansion and the U.S. Senate race, and DeSantis warned that Republicans may no longer be nationally viable if Texas cannot remain their anchor. He believes the damage could reverberate for a decade or longer.
DeSantis argued that Democrats didn’t receive a universal mandate for progressive politics; voters rejected Republicans in Washington and Democrats benefited. He contrasted the national collapse with Florida, where Republicans held statewide power, and presented his own record as evidence that the disaster wasn’t inevitable.
DeSantis hasn’t announced a 2028 presidential campaign, and he didn’t personally blame Trump for every loss. But with Trump weakened, JD Vance attacking the war and Republican leaders turning on one another, there is clearly blood in the water.
