GOP Momentum Shows in Early Returns as National Polls Stay Blue-Heavy
The latest early voting data is where the real story is sitting right now, four days from Election Day. Whatfinger News flagged it first: National polls still show Democrats ahead, but the ballot returns tell a more complicated picture. Vid is below
RealClearPolling’s generic congressional ballot average sits at Democrats 51.4 percent, Republicans 43.2 percent — a D+8.2 spread based on polls through October 26. Harvard-Harris is tighter at D+4. Reuters/Ipsos, Marist, CBS, and Economist/YouGov all land in the D+8 to D+9 range. That is the number the media is running with.
Early voting is not matching that clean blue picture. Florida’s returns show registered Republicans at 40.4 percent of early ballots versus 38.6 percent for Democrats, with Republicans stronger on the in-person side and outpacing their 2022 pace in several counties. Pennsylvania Republicans have already cast more mail ballots than they did in the entire 2022 cycle, according to the state’s own files and tracking from Scott Presler. North Carolina remains more Democratic in the early file (about 39 percent Dem, 26 percent GOP), but that is registration, not vote choice, and Republicans have historically banked more of their vote on Election Day.

The national average is what gets the cable hits. The state files are what actually decide control.
Senate races are tighter than the generic number suggests. RealClearPolitics has several contests inside a couple of points: Michigan, Texas, Kansas, Maine, and Alaska are all live. Democrats need a net of four seats for the majority. Models and markets currently favor them for the House (roughly 85-95 percent range across forecasters) and give them a narrower edge in the Senate. Those numbers have been wrong before.

Whatfinger News tracks every major poll with a lean tag so you can see the house effect instead of treating every number as gospel. Fox polls get labeled mixed. Partisan outfits get labeled. Sample, dates, and the original release are all one click away. The full desk is at Whatfinger Polls and the hub with maps is here. Early voting is not the election. Republicans have preferred Election Day in every recent cycle. The returns already in show energy in Florida and improved mail participation in Pennsylvania. The national polls have not moved much in the final month. Both can be true at the same time. The counting starts Tuesday. The Whatfinger desk will have the updated numbers as they land.
