- The clearest case of suppressing non-woke views is Gina Carano. She played Cara Dune in The Mandalorian. In 2021 Lucasfilm fired her after social media posts that did not match the company line. One post compared the treatment of conservatives in America to how Jews were treated under the Nazis. Lucasfilm called the posts abhorrent. Carano said she was hunted for every post and like that stepped outside the acceptable narrative at the time.
- Elon Musk stepped in. He had said he would fund legal costs for people fired over posts on X. He covered Carano’s lawyer bills even though they had never met. She sued Disney and Lucasfilm for wrongful termination and discrimination. A trial was set for 2025. In August 2025 both sides settled. Disney’s statement said Carano was always well respected by directors, co-stars, and staff, worked hard, and treated colleagues with kindness and respect. They looked forward to identifying opportunities to work together. Carano thanked Musk publicly for funding the case and asking for nothing in return.
- Fans on X still talk about the pattern. One user said he cut all Disney products after the Carano firing and has not gone back even after the settlement. Others keep boycotts going over content that puts politics ahead of stories. The Kimmel suspension brought another wave of cancellations and renewed calls to drop the services.
