Hero Teacher and Armed Dad Stopped the Bend School Shooter. New Details Show How Fast It Ended.
On Thursday, Oct. 15, a 16-year-old former student walked up to Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. He threw a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun over the fence, climbed after it, and shot his way through locked doors into a special needs classroom. He killed three boys — ages 5, 8, and 11 — and 25-year-old teacher Megan Lambert. A 7-year-old and a 54-year-old teacher were wounded. Police later named one of the children killed as Rhoam Summer.
The shooter was Griffin J. John II. He had been a special education student at the school but was no longer enrolled. He lived about a half-mile away with his mother. The shotgun was registered to her. He fired as many as 15 rounds inside the classroom and still had about 44 more in a backpack when it ended. Investigators are looking at his phone, computer, and social media for a motive. Police Chief Mike Krantz said everyone wants to know why, including them.
🇺🇸 HERO! The armed man who RAN AFTER and NEUTRALIZED the Bend, OR elementary school shooter has been identified as Kaylub Giamanco, his brother tells NBC
This man should receive the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!
Kaylub was reportedly driving by the school on his lunch break when he saw the gunman enter the school, deciding to bolt after him and take him down before police were anywhere close.
This private citizen risked his life to save other people’s kids. Just incredible. Very American.

Two people stopped him before he could keep going.
Inside the classroom, a teacher threw her cellphone at John, then tackled him and fought to get the shotgun away. She was not injured. Chief Krantz called it true heroism and said she almost certainly kept more people from dying. While she was wrestling with the teen on the floor, a local father walked in.
Kaylub Giamanco, 36, is a carpenter and father of two girls who go to Silver Rail. He was driving home for lunch when he heard shots and saw the teen. He pulled his legally carried .40-caliber pistol from his car, followed John through the broken doors, and shot him multiple times. The shooter was dead when police arrived a few minutes later. Giamanco’s family said he does not want attention. His mother said he is grateful to first responders and the community. President Trump called him a great hero.
MOTHER OF HERO SPEAKS OUT 🙏🏼
Kaylub Giamanco’s mom just described the phone call she got moments after her son stopped the school shooter in Bend, Oregon.
“He said, Mom, I just shot and kiIIed somebody.”
She asked him to tell her about it.
“A man went into my daughter’s school and shot kids. And I looked at him point blank and I shot and kiIIed him, Mom.”
She told him he saved a lot of lives.
His answer: “Mom, I couldn’t save them all.”
He was driving home from lunch when he heard the shots. He pulled up onto the grass, grabbed his gun, and followed the gunman back into the school. He army-crawled through a window the shooter had already blasted out and ended the attack.
Three kids and a teacher were already gone. His own daughters were safe. Now he’s struggling with the ones he couldn’t reach and asking himself what he could have done differently.
This is what happens when a good man with a gun runs toward the sound of gunfire instead of waiting for someone else to show up.
THAT is what stopped more of them from dying.
Kaylub Giamanco is a hero.

A man in a red pickup also confronted John outside the school. John shot at the truck but did not hit the driver.
The whole attack stayed inside one classroom. The teacher who fought him and the armed father who finished it kept it from spreading. Bend police and the school superintendent both praised their actions. The investigation continues into how John got the gun and why he targeted the special needs room he once attended.

From the folks: Abb: MOTHER OF 16-YEAR-OLD OREGON SCHOOL SHOOTER INSISTS HE WAS A “GOOD BOY” AFTER HE KILLED THREE CHILDREN AND A TEACHER The mother of the 16-year-old gunman responsible for Thursday’s horrific elementary school shooting in Bend, Oregon, is speaking out, insisting her son was a good boy despite the unimaginable violence that left four innocent people dead. John J. Griffin II, 16, has been identified as the teenager who opened fire at Silver Rail Elementary School on October 15, killing three children, ages 5, 8 and 11, along with a teacher. A 7-year-old student and another teacher, 54, were critically injured. According to the New York Post, Griffin’s mother broke down in tears while discussing her son, describing him as a good boy and struggling to reconcile the child she knew with the horrific acts he allegedly committed. But another disturbing detail has emerged about the weapon used in the massacre.
According to NBC News, two senior law enforcement officials confirmed that Griffin’s mother purchased the firearm he used in the shooting around his birthday in August, just two months before the attack. The weapon was reportedly a pump-action shotgun. Authorities have not publicly established whether the firearm was specifically intended as a birthday gift or explained how Griffin gained access to it on the day of the shooting. Investigators say the teenager arrived at Silver Rail Elementary shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday and began firing. He reportedly shot through locked school doors to force his way inside, where children and teachers were going about their normal school day. Among those killed was 5-year-old Rhoam Summer, a kindergartener whose family is now preparing to bury their little boy instead of watching him grow up. Two other children, ages 8 and 11, and a teacher also lost their lives.
The massacre might have claimed even more victims if not for the actions of 36-year-old Kaylub Giamanco, a local father whose two daughters attend the elementary school. Giamanco was reportedly driving home during his lunch break when he heard gunfire. Armed with a legally carried concealed weapon, he pursued the teenager into the school and fatally shot him, bringing the rampage to an end. Despite being credited with saving lives, Giamanco is reportedly struggling emotionally with what happened and does not consider himself a hero. Meanwhile, investigators are examining Griffin’s electronic devices, internet searches and social media activity to determine whether he had an interest in previous mass shootings or other acts of violence. Authorities have not announced a motive or established whether Griffin had any personal connection to Silver Rail Elementary School. While Griffin’s mother remembers him as a good boy, four families are now mourning loved ones who will never come home. Post on X
