Crowder Puts CNN, Jubilee, and Talarico on Notice With Lawsuit Over “Change My Mind”
Steven Crowder announced October 15 that he is suing CNN, the digital media company Jubilee, and Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico. They used his registered trademark “Change My Mind” during a town hall the night before without permission or credit.
Crowder built the format years ago. He sets up a table, posts a sign with a clear position and the words “CHANGE MY MIND,” and invites people to sit down and debate him face to face. It started on college campuses and grew into a long-running series with hundreds of millions of views. His company, LWC IP Assets LLC, registered the trademark in 2020. It covers entertainment services for ongoing webisodes featuring comedy and politics. The registration is still active.
We’re suing. Not just CNN. Jubilee and James Talarico, as well.
Change My Mind is a registered trademark.
I was rejected by cable news for this exact concept. We took the risk. We paid the cost. Now everyone else swoops in with investors and donors, steals it, and profits. https://t.co/InsUfpPE6d

On October 14 in Fort Worth, CNN and Jubilee hosted Talarico for a town hall moderated by Erin Burnett. They branded a segment of one-on-one conversations with Texas voters “Change My Mind.” Crowder says the network used the exact phrase at least ten times. He first posted a photo with the words “Lawyer up.” He followed up later that day: “We’re suing. Not just CNN. Jubilee and James Talarico, as well. Change My Mind is a registered trademark. I was rejected by cable news for this exact concept. We took the risk. We paid the cost. Now everyone else swoops in with investors and donors, steals it, and profits.”
On his show the same day, Crowder said he is not usually quick to sue. He has been copied before, but he called this one egregious. “I don’t want our trademarked brand, logo and format to be used for James Talarico to associate and ingratiate himself with right-wing voters,” he said. He described the case as a “slam dunk” based on what his lawyers told him and said his team is working to identify who disregarded the trademark, who plagiarized it, and who profited most and for how long.
CNN and Jubilee hosted a town hall with @jamestalarico last night and I only have one thing to say.
Lawyer up. https://t.co/rMx1z8FCPy

Anti-Christian Trans supporter Talarico is running against Republican Ken Paxton in a supposedly tight race for Texas’s U.S. Senate seat. Some polls have shown him competitive or ahead as he works to appeal to moderates and a slice of Republican voters. Crowder does not want his well-known debate brand helping that effort on CNN’s air.
Public reports as of October 16 show Crowder has announced the lawsuit on X and on his program, but they do not confirm that papers have already been filed in court. The trademark protects the name for specific entertainment services, and any case would turn on whether the use creates confusion about the source. CNN has not issued a detailed public response in the coverage so far.
Crowder’s series took a concept that cable outlets once passed on and turned it into something audiences recognize. The same phrase and setup then appeared on CNN and Jubilee for a Democratic candidate trying to win over voters in Texas. The lawsuit will test how far the registration reaches when the format shows up on network television. CNN should be forced to give him millions on the low end.
