The backlash over the federal search of Ilhan Omar’s home has officially exploded in Minnesota. Somali-born Minneapolis City Council Vice President Jamal Osman says Somalis feel personally attacked by President Trump, while another resident described the search as an attempt to humiliate Omar and claimed Trump hates Somali people because of her. However, one younger Somali-American woman admitted an investigation seemed inevitable after years of questions surrounding Omar’s immigration story.
Here is what is confirmed: Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Omar’s Washington-area home. Agents reportedly seized her phone, passport and computers, while more than a dozen grand-jury subpoenas were issued—including to relatives. Omar has not been charged, the allegations remain unproven and she denies wrongdoing. Trump says he did not direct the search, but the investigation has now become a full-scale political war.
