A new refinery planned for Kenya’s coast would process up to 700,000 barrels of oil per day, making it the largest refinery project in East Africa. The development, led by Aliko Dangote, comes with promises of greater energy security and lower dependence on imported fuels across the region. Yet its success depends on securing crude supplies from countries including Uganda, South Sudan and Kenya, while concerns over ownership and local opposition have not disappeared.
