Rescue teams are racing to reach workers trapped in tunnels at hydropower projects across Nepal’s Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, days after catastrophic flooding triggered by a glacial collapse on 26 August. The disaster has killed more than 900 people and left over 4,700 missing.
Nepal’s disaster authority says 933 hydropower workers are among the missing, and officials estimate at least 500 are trapped in tunnels. Teams are drilling through mud and debris with support from foreign experts, as Nepal’s energy minister declares the rescue operation the country’s highest priority.
