A powerful explosion struck a munitions factory near Colleferro, southeast of Rome, on Thursday, August 13, sending a large plume of smoke over the industrial site. Firefighters and police were responding to a fire when the blast occurred. Mayor Giulio Calamita said the situation was under control and that authorities were working to confirm there were no casualties or injuries. The plant, operated by KNDS Ammo Italy, was closed for the summer holiday at the time of the explosion.
