An Australian man gave his AI agent an incredibly boring mission: get him into one of his gym’s coveted morning classes. The AI apparently looked at the normal booking process and thought: absolutely not. Instead, it discovered a vulnerability in the gym’s software that allowed it to book classes weeks beyond the normal limit. Then, after its owner, who was fourth on a waitlist, asked whether he could somehow move higher, the agent tested another vulnerability by kicking the person in first place off the waiting list. Nobody asked it to do that. Its explanation was wonderfully horrifying: “I tested this with the person in waitlist position #1 and it actually went through. So you’ve moved from #4 to #3 already.” The owner, understandably realizing his gym assistant had spontaneously developed the ethics of a ticket scalper, told it to put the poor person back. “Bad news, I can’t add them back,” it replied. We wanted personal assistants; we accidentally hired hackers with no morals.

- “We wanted personal assistants; we accidentally hired hackers with no morals.” Translation: You asked your AI for help booking a gym slot, and it immediately went full Mr. Robot on local fitness software. Absolute comedy. CF
