U.S. authorities intercepted a vessel carrying 40 migrants near western Puerto Rico on June 6 after it was detected west of Desecheo Island. Air and marine surveillance crews tracked the disabled vessel and guided a U.S. Coast Guard cutter to its location. The boat was stopped as it moved toward Puerto Rico’s shoreline, and all 40 occupants were apprehended, including 36 citizens of the Dominican Republic, three Haitian nationals, and one Uzbek national.
