Welcome back to our small group study! John Barnett here. I want you to imagine we are sitting right across the table from each other with our Bibles open and our notebooks ready. Today, I am incredibly excited to introduce to you a class that proves the absolute, undeniable trustworthiness of God’s Word through the lens of fulfilled prophecy.
If you want to see how God can take a seemingly impossible situation and bring it miraculously back to life, you absolutely must join us for this lesson. Here are the four breathtaking promises we will unpack together:
1. The Miracle of the Dry Bones: A Nation Reborn
Scripture References: Ezekiel 36:10-11; Ezekiel 37:1-12; Matthew 24.
Summary of What’s Covered: We kick off the class by looking at the staggering reality that from 586 BC until 1948, there was no nation of Israel. For 2,600 years, they were like the valley of dry bones Ezekiel saw. But God promised to open their graves and bring them back to their own land. We will look at how this slowly happened through the Zionist movement in the 1880s, the horrific tragedy of the Holocaust, and finally the United Nations vote in 1948. We will also look at Matthew 24, where Jesus prophesied the Abomination of Desolation—proving that there must be a literal Jewish nation, in Jerusalem, with a rebuilt Temple at the end of the world. I’ll even share a personal story about a Jewish tour guide we met from New Jersey who left his comfortable life simply because God put a supernatural draw in his heart to return "home".
2. The Ancient Stones Revived: Rebuilding the Ruins
Scripture References: Ezekiel 36:36.
Summary of What’s Covered: Next, we look at the second promise: God declared that the ruined places would be rebuilt. If you look at the modern state of Israel today, they have done exactly that. They have taken ancient, desolate ruins and rebuilt them, specifically giving them back their original, biblical names just as God promised.
3. The Blooming Desert: An Agricultural Superpower
Scripture References: Ezekiel 36.
Summary of What’s Covered: The third promise is an absolute agricultural miracle. God said that the land would be tilled and sown, and the fruit of the trees would multiply. Today, Israel is an agricultural superpower. They have pioneered desert agriculture and drip irrigation, and at one point, over half of all the flowers sold in Europe came directly from the greenhouses of Israel. The desert is literally blooming like a rose!
4. The Iron Shield: An Exceedingly Great Army
Scripture References: Ezekiel 37:10.
Summary of What’s Covered: Finally, we look at Ezekiel 37:10, where the breath of life entered the dry bones and they stood upon their feet as an "exceeding great army". Today, Israel boasts one of the top four or five militaries in the entire world. We will explore how God has uniquely gifted Jewish engineers to develop world-altering defensive and offensive capabilities, from atomic and hydrogen technology to the modern marvel of the Iron Dome.
