A United Airlines plane that hit a light pole during a landing at Newark International Airport was a mere 19 feet over the busy Jersey Turnpike as it came down for the scary landing, an early the National Transportation Safety Board report showed.
The May 3 flight was cruising below the safe landing path for about three-quarters of a mile before reaching the runway and striking the light pole, the report said.
It was so low that a tractor trailer was initially reported to have been struck by landing gear, but the safety report clarified that the truck was only hit by debris from the struck light pole, according to CNN.
A Jeep on the highway was also struck by debris, while the driver of the tractor trailer was injured.
