New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that he has secured a lottery of 1,000 $50 World Cup tickets exclusively for New Yorkers. The lottery will be split up into batches for various games in the group stage and knockout round during the six-week tournament — but none for the finals. During the announcement Mamdani recalled the excitement he felt as a child watching the 2002 World Cup in South Korea.
