Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has raised Dr. Casey Means’ promotion of psilocybin — the active ingredient in hallocinogenic mushrooms — in her 2024 book, "Good Energy."
"I am concerned that in your book on ‘Good ‘Energy’ … you urge readers to consider psilocybin-assisted therapy," Collins said. "You also said that you were inspired to try psychedelics [by] what I can only describe as an internal voice that whispered, ‘It’s time to prepare.’"
Means said that she wouldn’t encourage Americans to use illegal drugs, explained that the voice she heard was from her deceased mother, and argued that psilocybin treatment is worthy of further study.
