The father of a girl kidnapped from a California slumber party and found dead in a shallow grave two months later pointed to the eerie similarities between the case and the search for Nancy Guthrie.
Marc Klaas’ daughter, Polly Klaas, was abducted during a sleepover with two friends at her mother’s house in Petaluma, Calif. on Oct. 1, 1993.
"It’s triggering," Klaas told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Thursday. "It’s triggering because there are so many similarities between what happened in our case and what’s happening here."
Klaas pointed out that both cases were conducted by an "overwhelming" joint effort of local law enforcement and the FBI.
"The law enforcement presence in both of these cases were overwhelming. And the fact that we’re going days on end without any new information, without new suspects," Klaas said. "What it does to you internally is it breaks you down. It takes you from a rational human being to somebody that is completely overwhelmed by fear and by anger."
Klaas says the toll the missing person’s case has on a family member includes the inability to eat, sleep and only worry for their loved ones.
