Kenyan President William Ruto defended his handling of the protests against his now abandoned tax increases in an interview with DW, during his visit to Germany.
Ruto said that much of the demonstrations that later escalated into riots calling for his resignation, were "fuelled by fake news."
At least 22 people were killed in the course of the months-long demonstrations that saw the parliament building also breached and ransacked.
Ruto also discussed his country’s relations with Germany, after signing a skilled labor and migration agreement with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin this week.
Kenya’s debt situation, as well as balancing relations with China and the West were also on the agenda.
