Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters” series is returning with a new installment titled “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” set to premiere on Netflix on September 19, 2024. This season will focus on the infamous case of the Menendez brothers, who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez. The brothers claimed they acted out of fear due to years of alleged abuse by their father and the complicity of their mother. The series aims to delve into these controversial claims and the sensational trial that followed PinkNews

Ryan Murphy’s acclaimed anthology series, “Monster,” is set to return to Netflix this fall with its latest installment, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” The series dives into the chilling true story of the Menendez brothers, Lyle and Erik, who infamously murdered their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, on August 20, 1989. The first trailer for the series has been released, offering a haunting glimpse into the troubled lives of this notorious family.

The series stars Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as the ill-fated José and Kitty Menendez, while Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch portray the brothers Lyle and Erik. The trailer paints a stark contrast between the seemingly perfect facade of the Menendez family and the dark secrets lurking beneath the surface. In one chilling scene, Kitty confronts José about a potential secret involving their sons, saying she doesn’t want any more lies between them, suggesting a deeper and more sinister family dynamic.

As the trailer progresses, the tension builds, culminating in a dark, intense moment where the brothers embrace in a dimly lit room, with one whispering, “It’s just us now,” followed by the echoing sound of a gunshot. This scene hints at the tragic events that led to the brutal murder of their parents, setting the tone for what promises to be a gripping retelling of this real-life crime.

The cast also features Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, Leslie Grossman, and Paul Adelstein, bringing together a talented ensemble to bring this tragic story to life. The series will explore both the public and private struggles of the Menendez family, focusing on the events leading up to the night of the murders and the subsequent trial that captivated the nation.

The Menendez brothers were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents and were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. While the prosecution argued that the murders were motivated by greed, with the brothers allegedly killing their parents for financial gain, Lyle and Erik have consistently claimed they acted in response to years of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.

Reflecting on their case in a 2017 interview with Dateline, Lyle Menendez pointed out that parricide, where a child kills a parent, often involves abuse, and most cases are settled out of court. He suggested that their case was sensationalized due to their family’s wealth and the Beverly Hills setting, framing it as a murder driven by financial motives rather than the culmination of years of alleged abuse.

Chloë Sevigny and Javier Bardem are the opposite of one happy family, starring in Ryan Murphy‘s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.”
