Mount Kīlauea erupted Sunday, sending lava fountains into the air and producing an ash plume that rose about 35,000 feet above sea level, according to officials. The U.S. Geological Survey said the blast marked the volcano’s 42nd episode of lava fountaining as part of ongoing intermittent activity that began in December 2024.

The story of Punch, the baby macaque, has captivated the world. Punch-kun, as he is affectionately known, was reportedly born in July 2025 but was abandoned by his mother shortly after birth. U.S. Capitol Police in Washington, D.C., arrested an 18-year-old man Tuesday after he ran from his vehicle toward the west side of the Capitol Building armed with a shotgun. A popular rock structure in Italy known as the “Lovers’ Arch” collapsed on Valentine’s Day following days of poor weather. The natural formation, which was part of the Sant’Andrea sea stacks along southern Italy’s Adriatic coast, was often used as a backdrop for tourist photos and wedding proposals, according to Reuters. “This is an unwanted Valentine’s Day gift,” Maurizio Cisternino, the mayor of the nearby town of Melendugno, was quoted as telling a local newspaper.
