The legal battle between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has intensified, with Jolie alleging that Pitt attempted to coerce her into signing an $8.5 million non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to conceal “years of abuse.” This claim was detailed in new court documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on July 25.
Jolie’s attorneys argued that Pitt, 60, should disclose “private, third-party communications” regarding their family’s 2016 plane incident, which led to Jolie, 49, filing for divorce. Pitt’s legal team previously labeled Jolie’s motion as “wide-ranging and intrusive.”

In the recent court filings, Jolie’s team contended that she sold her share of Château Miraval, the couple’s winery, in 2021 not out of malice but because Pitt refused to buy her interest unless she signed an expanded NDA. This NDA, enforceable by an $8.5 million holdback, was allegedly intended to silence her about the abuse and cover-up.
Pitt sued Jolie in 2022 over the sale, claiming she illegally sold her shares. The ex-couple is also locked in a protracted custody battle over their six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
Jolie’s motion emphasized that “abuse survivors are often discredited and rarely believed on their word alone.” She claimed Pitt sought to “bury” his “own hurtful emails demonstrating his past abuse of Jolie and their children” by demanding the NDA. Pitt, however, has denied using the NDA to cover up any alleged abuse.
In a May court ruling, a judge ordered Jolie to produce all NDAs she agreed to with third parties between 2014 and 2022. Pitt’s legal team asserted that NDAs are a significant point of contention in the Château Miraval dispute. They argued that Jolie’s use of NDAs undermines her claim that Pitt’s NDA request was “unconscionable.”

Pitt and Jolie, who first gained control of Miraval in 2008, began selling their rosé in 2013 and were married at the chateau in 2014. Pitt alleged that after Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, they agreed not to sell their Miraval shares without mutual consent. However, Jolie sold her stake to Tenute del Mondo, part of the Stoli group, in 2021 without Pitt’s knowledge or consent.
In July, Jolie’s legal team filed a motion urging Pitt to drop his lawsuit over the winery to “end the fighting and finally put their family on a clear path toward healing.”
