North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un oversaw rescue operations in flood-affected regions along the border with China, where approximately 5,000 people were rescued over the weekend. The flooding, which followed heavy rains, had left these individuals isolated and at risk. The North Korean army initiated emergency measures in North Pyongan province, with Kim himself inspecting and directing the response. State media KCNA reported that water levels in the Amnok River, also known as the Yalu River in Chinese, had dangerously exceeded safety limits, particularly affecting Sinuiju City opposite China’s Dandong.
