Hospitality industry warns against outdoor smoking ban

The hospitality industry has warned proposals to ban smoking in public places would have a dire impact on the sector.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has signalled that the government is considering banning smoking in outdoor public spaces, such as pub beer gardens.

Hospitality bosses said the move would be the "final nail in the coffin" for many pubs following the cost of living crisis and changing social habits.

Opposition MPs accused the government of being a "nanny state".
