Donald Trump’s national security adviser Mike Waltz believes Ukraine will agree to a deal over its valuable raw materials in exchange for security guarentees from the United States. Ukraine has extensive underground reserves of minerals including lithium and cobalt, and rare-earths such as scandium. These are used in industries ranging from defense to electric vehicles. Zelenskky has rejected a draft giving Washington half of the income, in exchange for military aid already it has already provided.
