Los Angeles remains tense yet somehow calm, as Donald Trump defends his decision to reinforce the military presence in the city.
700 Marines and more than 4,000 National Guard troops have been sent to the city to curb the recent violent protests against Trump’s immigration crackdown and to protect federal agents. California’s Democratic governor Gavin Newsom has called the action illegal and says the heavy military presence creates logistical complications. Since last Friday thousands have taken to the streets, with dozens arrested.
