President Trump confirmed Monday that he is no longer optimistic that Ukraine can reclaim its prewar borders with Russia. "They could still win it. I don’t think they will," Trump told reporters when asked about his more upbeat September assessments that Ukraine could retake all Russian-occupied territories. "But they could win it. I never said they would win it. I said they could win — anything can happen. You know, war is a very strange thing. A lot of bad things happen. A lot of good things happen."
