Before the invention of airplanes, computers, satellites, television, smartphones, and weapons of mass destruction, the events Jesus described weren’t even possible. No wonder theologians have had trouble understanding this book for centuries. To a people whose fastest method of travel was wooden ships and months at sea, global travel must have been unimaginable.
And when God describes the nation Israel as actively participating in global events, how could the Reformers have made sense of that when, from the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans all the way until 1948, there was no nation Israel?
