On Sunday, September 7, a WestJet flight from Toronto with 164 people onboard made a hard landing at Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten, causing its landing gear to collapse and the plane to skid down the runway. Passengers evacuated on emergency slides as fire crews sprayed the aircraft’s right wing and fuselage with foam as a precaution. The pilot issued a “Mayday” call during the landing, and three people were taken for medical evaluation, though no injuries were officially reported. Airport officials said one wing was damaged and all air traffic was temporarily suspended following the incident.
