Keir Starmer said he stood by his decision not to back the initial joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, after criticism from Donald Trump. Trump had accused Starmer of taking too long to approve US access to British air bases. Starmer said permission has now been granted for US forces to use the bases to strike storage depots for what he described as a limited defensive purpose. He added that the killing of Ali Khamenei has prompted Iran to act more “recklessly” against military and economic targets in the region.
