A resurfaced clip of Hillary Clinton calling for the criminalization of the burning of American flags has gone viral, sparking cries of hypocrisy from Republicans ripping Democrats for their outrage over President Trump’s executive order. In 2006, Clinton made a speech on the Senate floor asking members to pass the “Flag Protection Act,” which would make flag burning a crime. Nearly two decades later, President Trump announced an executive order which authorizes Attorney General Pam Bondi to prosecute those who desecrate the Stars and Stripes, when that action involves the commission of other federal crimes — and provided the suspect’s First Amendment rights are not affected.
