A potential new twist in the investigation into Rahmanullah Lakanwal, the alleged terrorist who ambushed two national service guard members, killing one and critically injuring another. Sources told the Daily Beast that they’re investigating a lead that Lakanwal might’ve been blackmailed by the Taliban, who may have threatened to murder his family in Afghanistan if he didn’t open fire on national guard troops.

The anonymous source told the outlet that the potential blackmail wasn’t the “only line of inquiry,” the investigators are looking into.
