Body camera video captured the quick response from police in Sparta, New Jersey, to rescue a dog that fell through an icy lake.
Good Samaritans around Lake Mohawk spotted rescue dog Sunkiss – a 10-year-old lab mix – along with another dog walking on the ice, who got loose from a residence on a neighboring street, Chief of Police Jeffrey L. McCarrick told ABC News.
The concerned citizens notified police and stayed on the scene until police arrived. After they made the call for help, Sunkiss fell into the icy water.
Using ice rescue gear, Patrolman Michael Poon crawled out onto the ice and made sure Sunkiss made it safely to dry land. She was immediately put into a patrol vehicle with the heat on and monitored.
